My name is Doris Pratt . I am a Reading Recovery Teacher and Comprehensive Literacy Intervention Specialist at Benton Elementary School. This is my 19th year in this position. I teach both Reading Recovery and small group reading and writing intervention to first and second grade students.
I graduated from the University of Maine at Machias with a degree in Junior High Education with a major in English. I trained for Reading Recovery and received my Certification in 1999. I continue to grow professionally by taking graduate level courses in literacy, attend literacy conferences and workshops, and participating in Reading Recovery and general continuing professional development here at Benton.
I grow up in a small town on the coast of Maine. My love for reading developed as a young child and I attribute my mother and some wonderful elementary teachers for giving me that gift. Reading has been a life-long passion for me and I hope as a teacher, I can pass on my love for reading to my students and instill in them the desire to become life-long learners as well.
My husband and I live in Fairfield and we have four grown children who attended school here at Benton and graduated from Lawrence High School. I have been a tutor for Literacy Volunteers of America and enjoyed teaching an adult learner . I love working with the teachers and students of MSAD 49 and promoting the joy of reading to all.
