Mrs. Foster

Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others. -Jack Welch

My name is Donna Foster and I am the math coach at Fairfield Primary and Benton Elementary Schools. My job as math coach affords me the privilege of working alongside teachers in grades K-6 at these schools in both regular education and special education classrooms. Working with students and teachers at such a wide variety of grade levels brings new adventures every day!

As the only math coach in MSAD 49, my role is to work alongside teachers in their classrooms. I observe lessons and offer feedback, co-teach, and model math lessons. I am also able to work directly with the students in the classroom during math time. In addition to this, I provide Professional Development to the staff at both schools. I also collect and analyze data to help set goals for our schools based on our data.

This year marks my 18th year in education...15 of which have been in this district. I have taught first grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade and have enjoyed each grade level I have taught. I received my Elementary Education degree from the University of Maine in 1993. Both of my graduate degrees are also from the University of Maine. I got my Master’s Degree in 2004 with a concentration in Literacy and my Certificate of Advanced Studies(CAS) in 2014 with a concentration in Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction. As part of my CAS, I received Math Leadership training, as well as a certificate, as part of the first group of Maine teachers to complete this.

I am also one of three advisers for Benton Elementary School’s Student Council (along with Lisa Roy, a Reading Recovery teacher, and Lynn Hamlin, the technology teacher). As part of this, I work with a select group of students in grades four through six. We work on community service and improving our school in a variety of ways. Some things we have done in the past include: Book Drives, Author Visits, Food Drives, Read-a-thons, March Movies, Bake Sales, Hat Days, School Spirit Days, and School Store. I also serve on the Benton School Council.

I feel fortunate to work with such loyal, hardworking, passionate, and dedicated professionals in MSAD 49! Donna Foster
