Mrs. Foster

Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others. -Jack Welch

My name is Donna Foster and I am the math coach at Fairfield Primary and Benton Elementary Schools. My job as math coach affords me the privilege of working alongside teachers in grades K-6 at these schools in both regular education and special education classrooms. Working with students and teachers at such a wide variety of grade levels brings new adventures every day!

As one of two math coaches in MSAD 49, my role is to work alongside teachers in their classrooms. I observe lessons and offer feedback, co-teach, and model math lessons. I am also able to work directly with the students in the classroom during math time. In addition to this, I provide Professional Development to the staff at both schools.

This year marks my 16th year in education...13 of which have been in this district. I have taught first grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade and have enjoyed each grade level I have taught. I received my Elementary Education degree from the University of Maine. Both of my graduate degrees are also from the University of Maine. I got my Master’s Degree in 2004 with a concentration in Literacy and my Certificate of Advanced Studies(CAS) in 2014 with a concentration in Curriculum, Assessment, and Instruction. As part of my CAS, I received Math Leadership training, as well as a certificate, as part of the first group of Maine teachers to complete this.

I am also one of three advisers for Benton Elementary School’s Student Council (along with Lisa Roy, the Literacy Coach, and Lynn Hamlin, the technology teacher). As part of this, I work with a select group of students in grades four through six. We work on community service and improving our school in a variety of ways. Some things we have done in the past include: Book Drives, Author Visits, Food Drives, Read-a-thons, March Movies, Bake Sales, Hat Days, School Spirit Days, and School Store. I also serve on the District Math Committee, Professional Leadership Team, Focus Team, and the RTI Committee.

I feel fortunate to work with such loyal, hardworking, passionate, and dedicated professionals in MSAD 49! Donna Foster
